and so it must come to an end...
I have had an almost perfect 4th of July weekend. It all started on Thursday night hanging out with my friends Dan and Maria. After a quick tour of their new place, we headed for dinner at a local Thai restaurant. On Friday, Doug had reserved a couple of kayaks for us to take a tour around Lake Union.
It was my first time ever kayaking, and once I figured out how to adjust my foot peddles, I have to say I did alright! Although Doug would probably beg to differ since was he had to constantly wait for me to catch up! The Wooden Boat Festival was happening at south Lake Union, so it was pretty cool to tool around all the cool wood boats. After two hours and two blisters later, (I think I was holding on to my oars a little too tight!!) we decided to get on our bikes and find some food and drink. Then we were out to find the perfect patch of grass and get ready for the spectacular fireworks show by Gasworks Park. It was a fantastic evening; we drank wine, snacked on some cheese and crackers, had great conversation, and of course people watched! It was amazing to see thousands of people claim their tiny patch of grass, sit there for hours and hours (seriously, some people had to be there for 8 hours or more!) simply to watch a 30 minute fireworks show, then load everything back into your vehicle to sit in traffic for 2 hours trying to get home! I guess I was technically one of them this year!
Saturday afternoon, we went to the Kelii’s house for a backyard BBQ; although most of it was spent inside laughing at my co-workers singing karaoke! There will surely be some stories come Monday morning! That night, Christie and I decided to spend a low key evening sipping on some wine at the Poco Wine Room on Capital Hill.
This morning I caught up with some friends to walk by the waterfront in Kirkland. And tonight, Doug and I are planning to complete the holiday weekend with blockbuster movie….after a nap of course!
I hope you all had a great holiday weekend, as it is back to work in the morning!
